How to become a Taxi Driver

To become a Taxi Driver in NSW you must first pass the eligibility criteria set by the Ministry of Transport. These are the requirements that applicants must meet before a taxi-cab driver authority can be issued by the Ministry, and are contained in the driver authorisation information package.

To apply an applicant must be at least 20 years of age and must:

 

 

NOTE: For applicants who wish to work outside the Sydney metropolitan area, some of the requirements for becoming a driver are different.

** Note: Once you pass the eligibility criteria you will receive a clearance number. This process can take up to 6 weeks from the time the applications are received at the Ministry of Transport. You may then attend the Taxicare Plus training course.
